Our congregation was incorporated in 1979. Sponsored by the Go Ye Chapel Church planting organization, we met in temporary facilities until this building was erected in 1985.
Hunterdon Christian Church (HCC) is part of a fellowship of non-denominational Christian Churches that emerged from a restorationist movement of the early 19th century in America. Finding the Kingdom of God divided and fragmented along denominational and sub-denominational lines, many at this time began to take the Bible alone as a standard for faith and practice. Known as the Restoration Movement, they invited other Christians from the various denominations to do the same for the purpose of unity in Christ. Today, it is still our goal to practice the Christian faith as it is revealed in the Bible and to call all Christians to unite under that plea.
Our doctrine is generally conservative-evangelical, yet allowing more tolerance and diversity than is found in fundamentalism. It is a position that strives for a proper balance between faithfulness to scriptural doctrine, and diversity in areas of opinion and tradition. This is summarized in the Restoration Movement slogan: "Where the scriptures speak, we speak. Where the scriptures are silent we are silent."
